In 2005 the Original Ladies Auxiliary turned in their Charter due to the ladies getting older and not having the manpower to keep the LA going.  Their membership was dwindling and this is what they thought was best.  A small group of younger ladies and a few of the Original Ladies decided to see if there was a chance of getting the LA up and running once again.  After looking into this in great detail and discovering the paper work had not being properly completed in Ottawa, the Charter was not in fact cancelled but was still alive and active.

And so the resurrection of the New Ladies Auxiliary happened in January of 2006.  There were several meetings, an Action Plan was drawn up and the Ladies went to work…with an empty bank account no less.  With great pride we can say, in our first year, the New Ladies Auxiliary grossed over $10,000.  We had a plan/vision and we stuck to it!!

We lost a dear member in the fall of 2006.  Ida Virtue, a Member of the Devon Ladies Auxiliary for over fifty years passed away suddenly at the age of 88.  She was a mentor to several of us and is missed dearly.  Ida was Sgt. At Arms and Membership Chairperson for the past fifty years.

The projects generating profit were as following:

  • Robbie Burns Night
  • Membership fees
  • Western Concert (Concession)
  • Burgers in the Park (Devon Days)
  • Leduc #1 Steak Dinner and Concession
  • Steak and Lobster Golf Tournament (Vandenbroke Memorial)
  • Hockey Night in Canada (Stanley Cup)
  • 50/50’s
  • Poppy Tea
  • Capital City Luncheons
  • Dart Tournaments (food)
  • New Years Eve Party
  • Donations

Other projects that were donated by the LA were:

  • 3 Funeral Luncheons
  • Remembrance Day Dinner

We made two donations to the Devon Legion; a Big Screen TV Projection System approximately $3,900 and a $1,000 cash donation.

We also adopted a needy family in Devon.  The LA supplied their schoolbooks and school clothes at the beginning of the school year.  We also made their Christmas.  A Christmas they will never forget.  A complete Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, a food hamper, gift certificates (all donated) a Christmas tree…with presents all delivered by Santa Clause himself on Christmas Eve; approximately $400.00.
